Covid-19 Information

Last updated Monday 19th October 2020

Current situation

The Government removed most of the legal restrictions related to Covid as of Monday 19th July, including those related to gathering for worship.

However, this is set against a backdrop of sharply increasing rates of infection at both national and local level. We want to ensure that St Columba continues to be ‘Covid Aware’ and ‘Covid Conscious’ by keeping practices during worship that reduce the risk of transmitting infections.

Whilst we cannot ensure total ‘security’ or enforce measures, we can be ‘aware of’ and model actions that aim to reduce the likelihood of infections. This response is in line with guidance from Bishop John and will be kept under regularly review.

Until advised otherwise please:

  • Use the hand sanitiser as you enter the church building

  • Continue to wear your mask on entry and whilst in the church building

  • We are now free to sing but we ask that you keep your mask on as you do so

  • Communion will continue to be ‘in one kind’ (wafer only)

  • Doors will be kept open to ensure a flow of air from the outside

  • Leave the building promptly and socialise outside

  • Please refrain from shaking hands or hugging

Our aim is that our practices demonstrate our love and care for each other and our town by ensuring that they are effective in reducing the risk of harm with the minimal impact upon the reason that we are gathering; to worship our Lord and to build each other up in our faith.

A Risk Assessment has been carried out on the Church building and necessary steps taken to ensure that appropriate controls are in place so that, as far as is possible, our church is Covid-Secure.

You can find the Risk Assessment  for St Columba Church here.

For the occasional offices please visit our baptismweddings and funerals pages, for the latest information.

In the meantime:-

We will continue to review guidance from the government and Church of England about Covid 19 safety within our church buildings and will update this page if the risks change to ensure are precautions are both safe and appropriate.

If you have a prayer request or need some practical support, please contact the minister Rev'd James Howson on 01604 555020 or email and we will be in touch with you as soon as we can.

We are here to help and support you during this difficult time.
